Breakfast of Champions @Night

Breakfast of Champions STD.png

As we all begin to welcome the fall, the Mayor’s LGBTQ Advisory Board is reflecting on its third year of advocacy work on behalf of Houston’s LGBTQ+ community. Our journey, thus far, has been quite dynamic, including a major policy win for Houston that has resulted in a comprehensive trans-inclusive health benefits program for municipal employees. We are extremely proud of our board for the partnerships we formed within our community to make this happen.

We’ve set ambitious goals this year, and our board has been working tirelessly to make these goals a reality. We are focused on expanding outreach throughout all Council districts, developing policy recommendations surrounding hate crimes and LGBTQ+ training for City of Houston employees, protecting the heritage and history of Montrose area, and data gathering/survey initiatives to ensure our advocacy efforts are evidence-based and touch those who are most in need.

This fall, we will take a moment to celebrate our community’s friends, partners and unsung heroes with an awards reception titled, Breakfast of Champions @Night to be held on the evening of November 13, 2019 at George R. Brown Convention Center. Our intent is to honor those making a difference in the community by advancing causes of interest to the LGBTQ+ community, no matter how big or small their platform. We will do this by presenting the City’s first LGBTQ awards- The HOUmanity Awards. Proceeds from the event will benefit the LGBTQ Advisory Board, allowing us to continue to advance our mission of acceptance and inclusion in Houston.
